Duties and Responsibilities

1. Primary responsibility for coordinating the design, development and initial offerings of online versions of the content courses comprising the physics teaching specialization, as well as an astronomy course.
2. Coordination of geographically distributed content and pedagogy experts, including organization of face to face and electronic conferences.
3. Teaching assignments as appropriate to educational background.
4. Completion of the online graduate certificate program in online learning through Fairmont (if equivalent program has not previously been completed).
5. Serve as resource for college faculty
a. Assist College faculty with converting traditional and creating new online course materials that comply with the TEACH Act and Section 508 accessibility guidelines,
b. Provide consulting for College faculty and staff on WebCT/ Vista, Horizon Wimba, Respondus and other Vista plug-ins
c. Create audio, video, and graphics files for inclusion in online courses
d. Identify existing resources and models that can be used to enhance online course development

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Major in physics or equivalent coursework in physics
Demonstrated experience with the development and use of materials and strategies for online learning
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate coursework or degree; field open (scientific, educational and/or instructional technology emphasis preferred.)
Experience in supporting learning (especially in the physical sciences) with Web-based technologies, including the design and development of materials that are consistent with sound instructional design principles for online learning.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects, meet project timelines, and coordinate the input of a geographically distributed group of project participants.

5. A cover letter (attached in the appropriate area of your application) that clearly addresses as many as possible of the following questions.
1. Describe why you are attracted to a position that involves converting physics content and teaching strategies into an effective online form.
2. Describe your experiences with development of online courses, development of web-based course materials, and/or conversion of traditional teaching materials into electronic formats for online learning.
3. Describe experiences that demonstrate your abilities to successfully manage projects.
4. Describe your experience with teaching online courses. (If you have not taught an online course, you can discuss experiences taking online courses or your philosophy of online learning.)
5. Describe your experiences with the use of WebCT/Vista or other course management systems.
6. Provide the name, position, title, phone number and email address for three professional references. Please also explain how you know each person.
7. Please explain how you are transmitting your electronic portfolio.
