[Phys-l] Don't wear underwired bras in a storm. Was: Re: cell phone lightning hazard?

are not the only problem. "People get burns from keys, watches, coins and even underwired bras," says Giles Harrison from the Meteorology Department at the University of reading, UK.

As a hazard, it is probably not worth losing sleep over, however. Between 30 and 60 people are struck by lightning in the UK every year, with around three people killed. "The chance of being killed by lightning in one year are about the same as your chances of winning the lottery in one week," says Harrison. [issue 2558, 1 July 2006, p23]
