[Phys-L] Re: Is Anyone doing Assessment during presentations/lectures of student understanding

Apparently the U. Mass Amherst group is using a large number of interactive
assessments in their courses now. I believe the article about their work
has been recently published, but it does not give more than a few samples of
their questions. This is part of their Assessing to Learn project.

You might contact them to see if you can get more questions. They claim to
have filled in many of the gaps in Mazurs questions. Mazur's questions are
pretty good for a class of all formal operational students, but not as good
for a mixed class of transitional and concrete operational students.

In either case a mixed class is extremely difficult because some topics are
easily learned by the formal students, but are impossible for the lower
students such as vectors. Apparently making distinctions between NTN 3rd
law pairs and other opposite but sometimes equal forces is another of these
topics. Maybe just now some PER groups are beginning to face up to this
problem.
