was difficult to get admitted and difficult to get kicked out. Why? the
procedure of getting in cost the Institute, their std. was VERY high,
and it looked bad if they kicked a student out. So they did all
reasonable to help students pass their courses, e.g. tutoring,
counseling, etc. They and I suspect the belief was any problem was not
ability, but psychological.

I suspect this is still true (especially the v. high std.) for the
heavily endowed institutions, e.g. Harvard, CIT, MIT, etc.

bc, who foolishly applied to only one college
