Fall Conference on Case Study Teaching in Science at SUNY Buffalo

5th ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON CASE STUDY TEACHING IN SCIENCE
October 8 and 9, 2004
University Inn & Conference Center, Buffalo, New York
http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/projects/cases/conference/conference.html

Sponsored by the National Center for Case Study Teaching, SUNY Buffalo,
with support from the National Science Foundation

The aim of our annual fall conference is to bring together people who are
interested in teaching science using case studies. This year's conference
features two tracks, one for newcomers to the method, and another designed
for more experienced case method teachers who want to hone their skills.
Track A includes mini-workshops on how to lead successful case
discussions, how to use small group learning strategies with cases, and
how to write your own cases and case teaching notes. Track B features
sessions on laboratory based cases, problem-based learning, science cases
that incorporate social justice issues, and cases and computer simulations
and Internet conferencing. In addition, this year we are soliciting
proposals for a poster session and paper session. For more information on
the paper / poster sessions, please see:
http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/projects/cases/conference/posterfaq.html

Dr. Clyde (Kipp) Herreid, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor and
Director of the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science, is our
conference leader.

Mini-plenary speakers include Dr. Mary Lundeberg, Chair of Teacher
Education at Michigan State University and co-author of _Who Learns What
From Cases and How_, and Dr. George Watson, Associate Dean of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics and Unidel Professor of Physics and Astronomy at
the University of Delaware. Dr. Lundeberg will present on "Assessing
Case-Based Instruction" and Dr. Watson on "The First Day of Class:
Introducing Change to Your Students."

Early bird registration (before or on September 13, 2004) is $225.00.
Regular registration (after September 13, 2004) is $275.00. Registration
includes a buffet lunch and morning/afternoon coffee breaks on Friday and
Saturday plus the Friday evening reception and banquet.

In addition, this year we are pleased to be able to offer travel
reimbursement through our NSF CCLI National Dissemination grant to faculty
attending the conference from a designated Historically Black College or
University (HBCU), Tribal College or University (TCU), Hispanic Serving
Institution (HSI) or a Minority Postsecondary Institution (MSI).
