Educational Websites

Members of Phys-l:

David Stern, NASA Goddard retiree, has developed three very fine educational web sites:

"From Stargazers to Starships" (http://www.phy6.org/stargaze/Sintro.htm)

"The Great Magnet, the Earth"

and

"Exploration of the Earth's Magnetosphere" http://www.phy6.org/Education/Intro.htmll)

These are essentially books-on-the-web, big ones, and the first in particular is a unique resource of material on astronomy, physics and space. The ideas underlying it were described in "Using Space to Teach Physics," in "The Physics Teacher", February 1999, p. 102.

David indicates that these sites are widely used and their use is
expanding. He has reached an age where he would like to locate persons
interested in working with him, in learning all the aspects of this job
and maybe some day taking it over. He is looking for someone familiar
with a broad range of physics, astronomy and their history, a good
writer, preferably a younger person with imagination and with ambition
to contribute significantly to the improvement of science literacy, of
students and also that of the general public, world-wide.

If you are interested in this project or know someone who might be interested, please contact David directly at audavstern@erols.com .
