reduction in childhood
The advance in life span is mainly do to the
mortality.
In a region of India neonates are not treated as"people" until they are a
week
or more? old. After that, if they die, they areceremonial buried, etc.
We do
the same(legally), only it's after the secondtrimester.
Childhood mortality _is_ part of the story, but look
bc
at the percentage of
the population over 70 in developed countries versus
say central African
countries, and THERE IS a major difference. We are
(on average) living
longer--hence the coming crisis in the US social
security system. Here we
can again thank improved medical technology and
improved nutrition and
indeed technology as a whole (safer cars for
example) for the truly longer
life spans.
