degeneracy pressure

I would appreciate some comments on the following quote from an introductory astronomy textbook regarding how black holes form:

"In some cases the remaining mass (after a supernova) may be so large that gravity also overcomes netron degeneracy pressure, and the core continues to collapse until it becomes a black hole."

My main concern is whether degernacy pressure can be *overcome*.
