Johannes Kepler (1571- 1630), wrote a book during the period from 1620
until his death called Somnium (The Dream), which was published
posthumously in 1634. In The Dream Kepler describes life on the moon.
It has been claimed that Kepler wrote it as a "dream" to avoid getting
into trouble from the Church (at that time both the Lutheran Church in
Germany and the Roman Catholic Church elsewhere in Europe seriously
frowned on those who promoted heliocentrism). There are numerous
references to Kepler's book that can be obtained by a search engine.
