Yes, IMO. When I ask for information about something with the hope that
my request will result in an invitation being given, I consider that
soliciting an invitation. If I mention an event to someone with the
expectation that the conversation may result in their inviting me to
participate, I consider that soliciting an invitation.
When someone invites me to do something without any prior initiative on
my part, that's an unsolicited invitation.
