That big bump can be a big explosion. In the 60's a PGE operator was working
at a station with 3 generators. One ran most of the time to handle off-peak
loads. The second and third were brought on line as hand peak loads. The
generators have to be brought up to speed before being placed on line. There
are meters in the substations to indicate the phase and when the on-line
and off-line generators are close enough to mutually sync. Anyway, the operator
brought the #2 generator up to speed and was ready to phase sync it when
he was distracted. He threw wrong switch and placed the non-running generator
on-line. Almost a dead short. The non-running generator literally blew apart
and destroyed the sub-station. The operator was behind a rack and was not
injured. However he was fired.

But I have papers in a heap
And piles to grade before I sleep
Or walk those woods so dark and deep.
