I also believe that the obital transfer was accomplished by a "simple" Hohman
transfer orbital insertion. This idea is accessible to most college level
intro. classes, and you might want to introduce it to your HS class. If you
like, I can send you a mathcad worksheet that does the computations.

The most "readable" text I have found for this is:
