As I expected, it turns out that the value '3D' is the hex value for
the ASCII 'equal sign'. But why this value name should be sent
following an equal sign itself is beyond me. I don't have similar
problems with other ASCII symbols and punctuation marks. What's with
the equal sign that makes it so special to email programs or the
phys-l server?
