This is probably the worst thing that could be done. Explosive
decompression of an airliner is a major concern. The sky marshals were
trained and properly armed to reduce the possibility of this happening.

Certainly, the new airline security officers have received (or are
receiving) appropriate training in this area.

I remember a cartoon back in the 1970s where each passenger is being
issued a pistol as they pass the security checkpoint.

This scenario is frightening to the anti-gun people, but it would solve the
problem
