Re: little gee and its sign

In his post, JSD has hit on something that has been bothering me
about this conversation. In my experiences, many students do not show an
ability to distinguish between superficial understanding and, how do I say
it, a "more complete" understanding. In other words, their ability to
self-reflect and self-evaluate is weak.

I wonder if this may be the problem here instead of some "inability" to do
scaling or whatever.

Perhaps someone on the list can provide information to confirm or deny my
suspicions?

Robert:
Why would a student's ability or inclination to think deeply,
self-reflect, and self-evaluate be very strong when NOTHING about
their educational experience ever invites or encourages such activity?

I go along with MDE and I suspect you in believing that while Tina's
data does not PROVE her explanation, it does support her explanation.
Her explanation is one that while not the only one as JU and JSD
point out, it is one that fits the data and furthermore goes along
with your observation above.

science could offer a photographic picture and true image of reality
had to be abandoned." --M. Jammer in Concepts of Force, 1957.
