Ahhhh. Good question, Gene. I think the answer is "yes," but I'll
check it out at the gym tomorrow. If a pull-up's "agony factor" is
related to the puller's instantaneous power -- which certainly seems
plausible -- then your question is crucial. (Is it possible that the
upstroke is a little faster than the downstroke?!)

I'd appreciate any other experimenters who are willing to add their
own personal observations, here.
