3) ABSTRACT SEARCH AND MEETING SCHEDULER

Abstract Search and Personal Meeting Scheduler
AAPT is now offering a beta version of a personal scheduler for the 122nd National Meeting in San Diego. You may view the meeting program by day, select the sessions you would like to attend, and print your customized version of each day's schedule. At this time, we do not have the capability to save your schedule so you must print your itinerary at the time you create it.

Please remember that the unexpected often happens, and that you should check the onsite addendum to make sure you have the correct information.

We hope to add more features to the scheduler as time passes. The URL for the abstract search and meeting scheduler is http://www.aapt.org/meetings/win01/

4) NEW ANNOUNCER COLUMN

Submit Your Professional/Personal News for New Announcer Column

Beginning with the 2001 Spring issue, there will be a new column in the Announcer. This column, entitled Member News, will be devoted to enhancing communication between our members. Send us your announcements of both professional news, such as awards, promotions, and special activities, and personal news, such as moves, births, marriages, and deaths. Any AAPT member can submit material for Member News. Just e-mail your submission to memb-news@aapt.org. The deadline for the 2001 Spring Announcer has been extended; all submissions must now be received by Dec. 8, 2000.

5) U.S. PHYSICS TEAM

The deadline for submitting an application for the U.S. Physics Team is January 11, 2001. The preliminary exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions taken from all topics in physics and four free response questions in mechanics. Visit the PSRC web site (http://www.psrc-online.org/evaluation/evaluation.html) to look at previous exams.

During the training camp, which is held at the University of Maryland at the end of May, the students are introduced to problem-solving and laboratory skills besides spending a day in Washington, D.C. There they spend time with the Secretary of Education, the Science Advisor to the President and meet with their congressmen.

This year the international competition is being held in Antalya, Turkey, June 28 - July 6, 2001.

For more information, please visit the AAPT website http://www.aapt.org/programs/physteam/physteam.html. For an application, please contact the Programs Department at 301-209-3344.

6) NEW AJP EDITOR SELECTED

Bob Romer will retire from his position as editor of the American Journal of Physics on June 30, 2001. Effective on July 1, the new editor of AJP will be Jan Tobochnik of Kalamazoo College.

Tobochnik was appointed as editor by the AAPT Executive Board following a national search by a committee headed by Peter Collings of Swarthmore College.

7) ONLINE COURSE SYLLABI

Do you have a course syllabus online that you might like to share with other faculty teaching the same or a similar course? This might be a valuable resource for new faculty members or faculty teaching the course for the first time.
You can submit the course information and URL for your syllabus to a searchable online database. The URL for the database is http://oliver.aapt.org/PSRC_forms/syllabi.html.
Alternatively, you can find a syllabus online for a new course that you might be teaching next semester. Online syllabi for courses using Just-in-Time-Teaching are available.

8) AAPT EXECUTIVE BOARD ASKS FOR INPUT

The AAPT Executive Board adopted a vision statement, mission statement and statements of four critical issues at the October Board meeting.
