1) ABSTRACT DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1

The deadline for submission of all abstracts for the 2001 AAPT Winter Meeting Joint with AAS in San Diego, CA is Friday, September 1. Please submit electronically through the web at:

Other methods of submission will result in the printing of the author's name and abstract title only, both on the web and in the Announcer.

2) HIGH SCHOOL GRANTS FOR INNOVATIVE TEACHING

AAPT has set aside $1000 in grant money to help support several high school teachers who are involved in innovative physics programs or activities that seek to increase student enrollment or to enhance student achievement in physics. Grant amounts can range from $100 to $500. 3) AAPT EXECUTIVE BOARD ASKS FOR INPUT

At the planning retreat held prior to the AAPT Summer Meeting at Guelph, the retreat participants drafted a vision statement, a mission statement, and statements of three critical issues. A report of the planning meeting and the draft statements are available online at http://www.aapt.org/planning/meeting.html. Comment boxes for members to provide input are available at this web site, or comments can be e-mailed directly to President Ruth Howes at rhowes@gw.bsu.edu.
