Re: Optical pyrometers, was R = V/I ?

Leigh,

What is the "microwave demonstration"?

Of course I would finish with
the microwave demonstration I learned from people in this group. I >do it
for my (university) students whenever I have a party at my >home. It is
always a big hit.

Take an old fashioned glass (a stubby drinking glass). Put about two
centimeters of water in the glass (deep!). Place a 60 W light bulb
in the glass with its base immersed in the water. Place in microwave
oven. Arrange spectators around window of oven. Cook for one minute
at full power. Serves about six.

Notes:
This is better if you have a turntable and locate the glass off center.

It doesn't matter whether the bulb is initially burned out or not. (It
will certainly be burned out after this treatment.

Don't touch the bulb for three minutes after it is done. It will be hot!

Have another bulb on hand. Even if you only have six spectators you will
be asked for seconds.

There's nothing magic about the ingredients above. Experiment; enjoy!
