Can you explain why this is so?
It is logically impossible to explain a negative.

originates at the light source.
True. That is the meaning of the word
"source".

Why is it meaningless
to say that a graviton orignates at the gravity
source, the mass, a significant portion of which lies
within the event horizon?
When you say "gravity source, the mass," (all
of which has been swallowed by the singularity at the
origin, by the way) you are assuming that "gravity source"
means "graviton source". That identification is unjustified.
What is the mass doing to generate
gravitons (which transverse spin 2 quanta)? Nothing.
A static gravitational field is no more made up
of gravitons than is a static coulomb field made up of photons.
