Mmmm,

Some current flows "through" the input of an FET (However, it may be only an imperfection
in the device -- see next). I prefer using the definition as the method i.e. use a test
charge to determine electric field, and measure the force (doesn't require any continuous
current flow). An electroscope has current flow only when the field changes and very
little.
