Summer Student Assistantships Available



The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University is seeking
Instructors and Lab Assistants for two sessions of its summer residential
program.

About the organization
The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) of Johns Hopkins University has
openings for science instructors and laboratory assistants in its summer
residential program. CTY is a university-based organization serving
academically talented middle- and high-school students throughout the U.S.
Students are identified on the basis of math and/or verbal reasoning ability
as measured by standardized tests. Their reasoning abilities are far above
grade level.

Position descriptions
Physics Instructor: A physics instructor is needed at the Franklin and
Marshall College site for a three week session, from June 22-July 15, 2000.
The program is residential. Students take one course in a three-week
session; courses meet Mon-Fri for class/lab from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and
after dinner for a two-hour evening study session. Desired qualifications
include teaching experience and some graduate training in the field.
Starting salary for the position is $1700-$2000; full range per three-week
session is based on education and experience. Room and board is provided.
Employees are expected to pay their travel to and from the program.

Astronomy Laboratory Assistant: Lab Assistants are needed at Franklin and
Marshall College for two sessions and at Goucher College (Baltimore) for the
first session. The programs are residential. First session dates are June
22-July 15, 2000; second session dates are July 15-August 5, 2000. Students
take one course per session. Classes meet Mon-Fri for class/lab from 9:00
am to 3:00 pm and after dinner for a two-hour evening study session.
Desired qualifications for candidates include course work in Astronomy and
some teaching experience. Salary is $900/session plus room and board on
either the F&M or Goucher campus. Employees are expected to pay for travel
to and from the program site.
