This is mainly a plug for the Instructor's Guidebook that comes
with Knight's Physics: A Contemporary Perspective. Wow! It's the
best short treatment of physics pedagogy I've ever seen. I wish
I'd had this book when I first started teaching. Of course Arons is
wonderful as well, but what I like about Knight's book is that it's
oriented
toward practice rather than just identifying common misconceptions
-- often Arons just says "Students should be led to the realization
that..."
and so on. The ISBN for Knight's guidebook is 0-201-35712-7, and
the publisher is Addison Wesley.
By the way, does anyone know of an anthology that brings together
some of the best original physics pedagogy articles in one place?
Like many community college teachers, I have to go through a lot
of hassles to get copies of articles from journals.
