NSF CCLI Proposals Due June 5, 2000

NSF CCLI PROGRAM

The National Science Foundation program that gives grants to faculty and/or
institutions to improve curriculum, by supporting course development time
and/or by supporting the purchase of equipment, is:

COURSE, CURRICULUM, AND LABORATORY IMPROVEMENT (CCLI)
Deadline for Formal Proposals: June 5, 2000

Rumor has it that with the current low level of proposal pressure this
program might be eliminated. This should not happen, and we need to increase
the proposal pressure to show NSF (and Congress) that this program is of
value to those of us intent on transforming undergraduate SME&T.

You should know that the CCLI incorporates the old ILI (Instructional
Laboratory Improvement) program and that the request can be for equipment
alone. There is no requirement that you ask for both equipment and for
time.

This is hopefully a timely alert, in that you may be preparing budget
requests for 2000 - 2001 that could serve as an outline for an NSF CCLI
proposal. This is an approach that seems to work: to translate internal
budget requests for time and equipment into proposals seeking external
support.
