2) 2000 DEPARTMENT CHAIRS CONFERENCE APRIL 14-16, 2000

We invite all department chairs to a conference of Physics Department
Chairs on April 14 - 16, 2000, at the American Center for Physics in College
Park, MD. This will be the ninth in a series of Department Chairs
Conferences sponsored by the American Association of Physics Teachers and
the American Physical Society. These conferences provide opportunities to
discuss specific issues and also to network with academic leaders from
across the country. This year the Conference will emphasize changes in the
undergraduate curriculum.

For more information and a registration form, visit the AAPT website at
http://www.aapt.org/programs/chairs00.html

or contact the AAPT Programs Department at aapt-prog@aapt.org .

3) AAPT SEEKS INPUT
It has been five years since AAPT reviewed and updated its long-range plan.
Physics education and the world in which it exists have evolved steadily
during that time. We need to examine our future to position AAPT to best
serve physics teachers in the next five to 10 years.

We would like the membership of AAPT to provide input for the planning
process. Please see the open letter from AAPT President Ruth Howes in the
Spring Announcer, or online at

http://www.aapt.org/aaptgeneral/asscnews.html

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The annual AAPT Apparatus Competition will be held in Guelph, Ontario on
July 30, 2000, during the AAPT summer meeting.

There are two categories - Low Cost Apparatus and Introductory Laboratory
Apparatus. Prizes range from $100 to $1000.

Plan now to enter, and notify the Competition Director by May 1 of your
intention to enter (for details, see
