I haven't caught all the notes about science, and what it is, but on
Galileo, it is pretty much a physicist's myth that he was primarily an
observer. Those who have looked closely as his work find references to
experiments which he could not have done...ie thought experiments, a
deductive tradition, and other mysteries. His was a mixed bag of
activities, just like the rest of us.
