I suggest a physical model.  A submission to the list is like an impulse to a resonant circuit; a high Q subject will result in, say, five to ten responses. a low one only a few.  For those of very great interest, it will have an attached amplifier with positive feed-back; submitters will reply again and again.  So, I conclude; it's self limiting -- if one doesn't like the topic, delete w/o reading.  This topic was right on (pun intended) in frequency and the response enjoyable.
