Thanks for this info, I wish you posted it a week ago. Time to go figure
out why
L/4 isn't a node for the fundamental (or is that the answer?) on a xylophone.

I've posted my recommendation of Olson's book at least twice
in the past in this group. Xylophone bars are mounted at their
nodal points and fitted with resonant tubular cavities below.
They are cut to oscillate at their fundamental free bar
frequencies, as are the marimba, glockenspeil, and chimes.
