Univ-High School Partnerships/AAPT Workshop

Of general interest to the physics community are UNIVERSITY - HIGH SCHOOL
PARTNERSHIPS.

Next Tuesday at the AAPT Summer meeting in San Antonio, David Hestenes is
leading a workshop and a tutorial on this important subject.

We have room for more attendees at both events. We invite you to register
on-site, or to participate vicariously by downloading our "Partnerships"
paper from our web page.

David and I are doing a lot of work to prepare for the interactive
workshop. After the AAPT meeting we'll put partnership resources on the
modeling web page.

Cheers,
Jane Jackson

W07: UNIVERSITY - HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS FOR PHYSICS TEACHING REFORM
8 - 12 AM, Tuesday
David Hestenes and Jane Jackson

Easy low-cost ways to form partnerships between university physics
departments and local alliances of physics teachers will be discussed. Such
partnerships will provide sustained professional development for high
school teachers. This will result in better students, increased physics
enrollments, and ultimately a populace that can reason soundly.

T01: INTRODUCTION TO UNIVERSITY - HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS FOR PHYSICS
TEACHING REFORM
7 - 8 PM, Tuesday
David Hestenes

High school physics teachers must be integrated into the physics community.
They must be empowered by access to university resources and by sustained
professional development. Learn how this can be achieved at the local level
by partnerships between university physics departments and local physics
alliances.
