Re: A MISCONCEPTION ITEM

Would it be more proper to use "upper-level tropospheric wind velocities"

I am really illiterate in this area. By "common wind" I meant
the wind experienced on the surface of our planet. I suppose
that isobaric lines also refer to pressures near the sea level.
But I can see some complications which may result from
local topography (relation between pressure and speed, etc.)

The messages from Brian and Leigh made me aware that
things may not be as simple as I was imagining and I will
try to educate myself. For the time being I just took their
statement for granted. It conflicted, and still conflicts, with
the following naive preconceptions --> "If a wind flows
from the area A to the nearby area B then the average air
pressure at A must be higher than at city B." This is easy
to verify experimentally, I suppose. Just a matter of two
sensitive altimeters on very windy day.
