Re: National Certification for Physics Teachers

I'll send the web link again. I know very little about the process. I
looked into it a few years ago before they even had adolescent science as
a possible certification. At that time the cost was $2000 and you had to
jump through a bunch of hoops in keeping a portfolio of your teaching,
getting video tapes of your lessons, providing curriculum etc. The hoops
made getting my masters degree seem easy. A few people here in Minnesota
have done it because some districts offer a financial incentive for
getting certified. A $5000/year bonus might get me interested again but
the best offer I've seen in Minnesota is a one time payment of $3000.

The Web Link http://www.nbpts.org/ You should be able to just click on
it and be there. The site is a pain to navigate - probably an indication
of the hoops needed to get certified.

I am interested about this as well. I live in Illinois and I have not
heard anything about it here, but my friend in Iowa has heard
something. Any news??

Does anyone know anything about the national
certification program for
teachers? There is a bill in our state
legislature here in Louisiana that
would give a $5000/year bonus for teachers who
have such a certification.
