Open heart paddles deliver a few joules directly to the exposed heart muscle!

(at least that's what the TV surgeons call for)

in the old days they sometimes specified '100 watt-seconds' e.g.
(NOT open heart!!!!!)

now days they just call the numerical value and
seem to not want to call them joules.


I checked with my wife who is a critical care nurse and deals with
electric shock to defibrillate the heart. She says depending upon what
they are trying to do/undo, they use anywhere from 50 to 360 J with the
value usually being above 100 J.
