I just scrambled back on the list ( Oh, the feeling of rejection...)
A student asked me why bumps feel less bumpy when
the car is traveling at a higher speed.
From a modeling perspective, if I consider the car mass, suspension, tire
system as a low pass filter ( it indeed must pass long sustained road
profiiles onto the body, else the suspension bottoms) then a higher
frequency impulse is further out of the pass band and is more highly
attenuated.
That is not to say the suspension will thank you - it is more highly
stressed - but at least the sprung body emits a silent sigh of relief.
Personificatorialy yours,
