The people who actually design and build electrical distribution systems
refer the the 'ampacity' of a given component, system etc.

Since I'm the guilty neologist who coined "ohmicity" perhaps
I'm not the one to complain about that, but what does it mean?

Yes, ampacity is the maximum safe current that the electrical code
(NEC in the US of A) allows on that particular system.
