Re: SI units

Folks,
I have been teaching in Japan at the secondary level now for about 3 years.
Here the term Kilo can mean distance or weight. It is a foreign word that
has been brought into Japanese. I have never had nor heard anyone in three
years think that when I say `I drove 190 Kilos yesterday` that I was
refering to my resembelance to a sumo wrestler! I think our battles are
better fought elsewhere!

I think we need to fight the use of the word "kilo" for
kilogram because it is confusing. It just means 1000.
A "kilo" of tomatoes might be a kilogram of tomatoes
or 1000 tomatoes! WBN
