Hmmm..generate interest in physics with a timed multiple choice exam
paper?

My sentiments, exactly! What could be more wrong-headed? The
organizers of this event demonstrate clearly their lack of both
intellect and
taste.

Taste is a matter of personal preference but there is no lack of
intellect
among the AAPT organizers of the PHYSICS BOWL. A great deal of thought
and consideration of MANY alternatives went into the formulation of this
contest.

It is extremely difficult to come up with practical ideas for physics
competitions and other events that have wide appeal, are challenging,
easy to organize and administer nationally, and can also stay within
budgetary restrictions.

The Westinghouse Science Talent Search has a lot going for it. It
requires students to complete research projects and awards scholarships
to the ten judged best in the country. However this contest is now being
abandoned by Westinghouse for reasons that are not too clear at this
time.
