PHYSICS TENURE TRACK FACULT



Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor position which starts
August 1998. A commitment to teaching undergraduate non-majors and physics
majors is essential. We seek a person who has a Ph.D. in Physics or a
closely related field or who expects to receive one before the starting date.
We are most interested in a vigorous, enthusiastic, and talented teacher. We
seek an experimentalist in Atomic, Nuclear, or Applied Physics who can develop
an undergraduate research program. Other areas such as Biophysics may be of
interest. Computer expertise is welcomed. We do not wish to expand existing
expertise in Theoretical, Elementary Particle, or Condensed Matter Physics.
Hillsdale College, http://www.Hillsdale.edu, is a private, well-endowed,
co-educational, liberal arts school of about 1100 students. It is located on
a 200 acre site in the beautiful small midwestern town, Hillsdale, Michigan.
The college has a strong Science Division and a tradition of undergraduate
research. The physics department is well equipped and has 15,000 sq. ft. of
floor space. A typical teaching load consists of 14 hours of lecture or lab
classes per week. We are expanding to four physicists. Each teacher has one
section of the all school non-majors' science course, for 1/2 semester, plus
an introductory physics and/or an advanced physics course or lab per semester.
Salary is competitive with similar schools. Candidates should submit
statements on their teaching philosophy, plans for undergraduate research,
views on physics education research, and their professional goals. Copies of
college and graduate school transcripts should be submitted with official
copies to be sent before an interview. At least three letters of reference
