You guys are making it too hard. Simply shake the egg, breaking the air
pocket inside, and then the egg will balance quite easily, as the heavier
yolk settles, it provides a better base upon which the egg can balance.
This equinox nonsense just adds to the "urban myth". The salt does provide
a base, but is not necessary with a flat surface.

It's nonsense. This feat is slightly easier when aided
by the tidal force. Wait until the Moon is in the zenith.

Oh, yes; it also helps to have a little salt sprinkled
inconspicuously on the tablecloth.
