Physics positions




The following announcement will appear in Physics Today, as soon as
it makes its way through the bureaucratic maze. Any interested
people may consider this an official solicitation and respond
accordingly.

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Coastal Carolina University
invites applications for two tenure track positions in Physics to
begin Fall semester of 1998. Ph. D. required. (1) The successful
candidate for the first position will have a demonstrated interest in
and commitment to innovative methods of undergraduate physics
teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced
degree in Physics Education research or an area of Experimental
Physics. (2) The successful candidate for the second position will
have a demonstrated interest in and commitment to innovative methods
of undergraduate physics teaching. Preference will be given to
candidates with an advanced degree in an area of Experimental Physics
or a background in Physical Oceanography or some related discipline.
Teaching assignments will primarily be in both lower and upper
division Physics with the possibility of physical oceanography within
the Department of Marine Science.

The Department offers a minor in Physics and there is ample
opportunity for collaborative work with the Departments of Chemistry,
Marine Science, Biology and Applied Mathematics. The School of
Natural and Applied Sciences has a modern multimedia computer lab
built around a DEC Alpha workstation networked to a combination of X
terminals and Power Macs. Coastal Carolina University is a growing,
state supported liberal arts institution where the emphasis is on
undergraduate education and growing importance is placed on
undergraduate research. It is located in coastal South Carolina just
