Try a demonstration. The more simple the better. Place a large block on
long wood board. Tilt the board so the block slides down at an almost
constant speed. Then try again, but this time pull the board forward at
a faster speed than the block is sliding in the reverse direction. It is
obvious that the block is moving forward with respect to the ground.
