I give the following example to the students . I hold a stick
horizontally and ask them to imagine an insect at one end of it. I then
move the stick and ask them to imagine the insect move on the stick. I
ask a student to hold his finger at one end of the stick, so the
insect's distance from the finger and the end of the stick can be
measured and compared. You can have the insect move one way on the
stick and the stick move the other way and show that it should be
possible for the insect to end up at a point farther from the finger
inspite of moving towards it.
