Students who want to study, NO MATTER WHY, are more desirable than those
who do not care. What is wrong with being motivated by anticipated material
benefits, as in India? Some become scientists, many become productive in
other ways and all contribute to the pool of public knowledge. An ideal
educational situation, n'est pas? Will poor countries benefit from the
attitude of young people toward learning? That is a different subject.
