Wipe them with a non-abrasive cloth or absorbent paper.

Many solvents will remove the oil, but also will attack the embedded paint
in the engraved scales. Also, a little lubricant between moving parts is
not a bad thing with these instruments, you just don't want students
getting oil all over their hands.
