CMS summer institute




1997 Summer Institute:
Connecting Math and Science(CMS)
at Hawken School
near Cleveland, OH
July 21..25

The Connecting Math and Science(CMS) summer institute is a one week course
designed to help teachers of science and mathematics make better use of
technology in their classes. The course will make extensive use of the
CBL and TI-83 but will also use the new TI-86, CBR and TI GrapkLink and
internet access technology. The main text will be "Real-World Math with
the CBL System"

The institute is co-sponsored by Texas Instruments, Inc and is based on
materials designed by a team of CMS instructors, led by Drs Frank Demana
and Bert Waits of The Ohio State University. The course instructors will
be Charlie Reno from Hawken School and Bill Bower from The Kiski School
near Pittsburgh, PA. Three quarter hours of graduate credit are available
at a cost of $105.

The basic cost share will be $200. This covers lunch, refreshments at
breaks and printedcourse materials. Also, a TI-83 ViewScreen calculator
and CBL unit will be available at a special grant price. Your school will
be asked to pay all costs from Eisenhower monies or other funds. The
"Power of Visualization" should be available to all your students

Enrollment will be limited to 24 participants. Deadline for application is
