What's wrong with BinHex (with or without initial compaction)?

Even after de-binhexing it I still need to see the equations. Will the
de-binhexed file be rtf or pdf or TeX or what? Maybe you're saying it
could be a WordPerfect or MS Word file (which could each be imported into
the other program). That is still a multi-step process. And some of us
use neither Word nor WordPerfect.

LaTeX is straight ASCII, no conversion needed. And there are TeX/LaTeX
formatters/viewers (freely or cheaply) available for nearly every platform
in the universe. LaTeX output is the standard of beauty by which all other
formatters and word processors are judged. As for the difficulty of
learning LaTeX, there is a shareware text editor (Alpha 6.5) for Macs
(could be one for PCs too, dunno) that has all the math formatting commands
readily available in menus so one doesn't have to remember them.
