Re: smoke generator

Eugene,

There is, or was, a comercially available product called "touch paper".
It was essentially a tissue paper soaked in a concentrated solution of potassium
chlorate (KClO3) and allowed to dry. When a small piece of this paper, about 2
cm square, was ignited with a match, it would quickly smolder to ashes and
produce quite a bit of white smoke with little odour. The smoke particles are
probably very small which may have some effect on the observability of the
precipitate in your demo. Good luck finding or making something that works.
Let us know what you find.

Hi All,

We do a demo in which smoke under a bell jar is electrostatically
precipitated. In the past a volunteer has produced cigarette smoke for
the demo. Can anyone suggest an alternative? I seem to recall hearing of
smoke paper, a paper which is designed for this purpose. Does this exist?
If so, where can I get it?
