Re: Caving in: "Too strict" teacher fired

TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A high school science teacher who
denied he was too strict with his students has been fired for
``ineffective teaching.''
The Toledo Board of Education voted 5-0 Tuesday night to terminate
the contract of Shehrever Masters. School administrators said his
inflexible approach to teaching caused about 80 percent of his students
to fail or drop the class last year.

How can anyone justify an 80% failure/drop rate? Am I missing something?
What if it was your child in this class? Would you think anything was
wrong? Can you imagine teaching under any circumstances that would lead
to this result? I have taught under some pretty adverse conditions, but
could never justify failing/dropping 80% of my students.
