One of my colleagues wants to do a Doppler Effect demo for our annual Physics
FunFest and doesn't like any of the standard demos we do in class--he doesn't
think the effect is pronounced enough to be heard by our audience. Does
anyone out there know of a tried and true demo that works particualrly well?
We would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

I cut open a Nerf football, made a hollow, and inserted a battery powered window
alarm (a personal alarm might also work). I start the alarm, quickly tape the
ball shut and let the kids toss it around the room. The students in the middle
get the best "high tone - low tone", but even catching and tossing you can hear
the difference. (The kids like tossing it around also)
