Re: Rolling, Static, and Kinetic Friction

Hi, Jim:
Question: why do tires get hot?
Answer: because tires are not "perfectly" flexible, ant it takes
some work to produce their deformation adapting to the pavement.
This dissipates mechanical energy, hence you have to push the tire
to continue rolling.
When the motor accelerates the car, the wheel applies a torque
to the inner rim of the tire, and the force of friction from the
pavement on the wheel will counteract this torque.
