At Pima Community College (a large multi-campus 2-year college), we originally
had a 2-semester algebra based course, a 2-semester calculuc based course for
some types of engineering students, and a 3-semester calculus level course for
elect. engineers and phys. majors. The two semester calc based course was
abominable to teach or to take. Fortunately the 2 semester course has died a
merciful death and all engineering students now take 3 semesters of physics.
We could only get away with this because the University of Arizona (ultimate
destination for most of our engineering students) adopted a 3 semester
requirement.
